Hi readers,

I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend. Don’t worry, another weekend is around the corner to offer us some well-deserved relaxation.

As I was posting current events for the website, I stumbled upon an article on AOL Daily Finance called ” Top 10 Job Scams That Target the Unemployed”

The scams were listed as follows

1) Envelope stuffing

2) Federal government dream jobs

3) Government grant scams

4) Work from home making knickknacks scam

5) Become a rebate processor! scam

6) Search engine scams

7) Medical billing scams

8 ) Insider, pre-screened stay at home job lists scam

9) Mystery shopper scam

and my favorite….

10) Money laundering scam

I think it is sad that someone is trying to profit from someone else’s desperation and pain. However, we must all be diligent and research every company we want to work for. I know the basic pre-job interview rule is to research. Well here is another reason to do it.

Also,  always be skeptical of ANYONE who wants banking information, SS numbers, and other sensitive information. Usually, legitimate jobs do not ask for this info unless you they need to do a background check , they need to pay you ( or establish a direct deposit arrangement, and have you provide tax information (in my experience)

Ok, I’ll share my experience with a scam or potential scam.

I looked in the paper and found a position as an activist worker or something similar. I researched the company and even Googled the company’s name + scam to see if they are legit.

Well I got there and the location was in a very dirty and unkempt room. Something just didn’t feel right. However, I was so desperate for extra money that I filled out the application anyway ( mistake #1), provided personal info, and put my safety at risk.

I had to learn the lesson the hard way. Remember job seekers-do research, be smart, and follow your gut.

Thanks again for stopping by. Have a great day and feel free to leave a comment ( even if it is to say hello)
